Studio

Søren Aalto is a lighting designer based in Copenhagen. He trained as an architect at KADK before specialising in light at the Bartlett, and worked at Speirs Major in London for eight years before founding Aalto Lysværk in 2021. His practice covers museums, civic infrastructure, hotels, and a small number of private residences each year. He teaches a seminar on daylight modelling at KADK each spring and serves on the IALD's Northern European committee.

The studio is small by design. Søren works directly with project leads from concept through commissioning, with specialist support added only when the work requires it.

The practice is concerned with legibility, restraint, maintenance, and the behaviour of light over time. It treats mock-ups and night visits as primary design tools.
